At first we thought it was going to be difficult to find suitable shoes for my son when he started wearing AFO splints, but thankfully we found Friendly shoes. This is the second pair we've now ordered from them, and they are the perfect shoes to make life easier! The zip opening makes it alot easier for him to be able to fit a shoe on over his splint, and he says they are really comfortable thanks to the padded insides. He loves the cool design on the shoes too, and was happy he didn't have to wear anything too plain or boring! I would definitely recommend them.
We had been having such trouble getting shoes on our 7 year old son who has additional needs and sensory issues. It was causing meltdowns every morning. I ordered him a pair of these and after some convincing he agreed to try one shoe on, with the agreement that it would be taken straight off again. I put it on and he said, in surprise, " it's nice and comfy!" and asked me to put the other one on! And that was it, he has been wearing them happily since they arrived and showing them off to everyone!
He could not put his own shoes on before now but can manage these himself. Because they open all the way, he can put his foot down flat into them, which stops his sock wrinkling up, which I think was part of the problem. They are nice and padded on the footbed and at the heel so no breaking in was needed.
I've already recommended them to the SENCo at his school so she can tell other parents!
I bought these as I was told they were a little cheaper than Billy Boots. However these shoes didn't fit over the top of my son's leg splints. It cost me £5+ postage and packaging to deliver them to me and another £8 to return them. Really disappointed. Wouldn't recommend.
